Q&A
At the end of the year, the tax return can be done, and one should do this by the 31st of January of the following year to have declared and paid the entire amount of tax due.
The tax can be paid in different installments, provided that the entire amount has been paid to HMRC by the 31st of January of the following year.
As we calculate a fiscal year, depending on profit figures, HMRC will ask for two advances towards the following year. These advances are used to deduct the amount of tax due in the following year.
For example, if one had to pay £3,000 in relation to the last year, by the 31st of January HMRC will charge the full amount of £3,000, in addition to an advance on the next year's tax based on the current year's value, thus charging £1,500.
Therefore, in addition to the amount due for the previous year, HMRC will charge an advance of half of this amount, i.e. £1,500 for the next year, which will be collected in two installments.
The second installment of the advance will be charged until the 31st of July of the same year, at half the amount, that is, £1,500, referring to the next year. However, if the tax payer does not make a profit, HMRC returns this amount paid as an advance.
